Episode 21 - More Science Fiction

I deconstruct the coverage of the Lambda Literary Awards, plus reviews of Cathy Pegau's excellent sci-fi romance novels RULEBREAKER and DEEP DECEPTION. Also a review of THE DAUGHTERS OF MOAB by Kim Westwood.

Quick note, I will probably be taking next week off, if I can drag myself away from the microphone! But hopefully I'll be using some of that time to spiffy up the website and do some writing/planning/organizing that will make the podcast even better as we head into the summer.

If you have any suggestions or requests for Queer Books Please, now's a great time to let me know!

The Lambda Literary Awards were this Monday! Check out the official coverage here. After Ellen has a nice write up and touches on some of the political issues swirling around the ceremony. Autostraddle provides a very thorough look at some of these issues, specially the charges that the LLF tend to be biophobic and transphobic, while they may be making progress on those fronts.  I also recommend this older article Autostraddle published back in 2010 touching on similar issues.

It wasn't up when I recorded the podcast, but Nicola Griffith has a great write up of her experience as an attendee and award recipient (congrats!) at the gala.

I've been reading a lot of awesome science fiction lately. THE DAUGHTERS OF MOAB by Kim Westwood is fantastic, although may be hard to find in the states.

Cathy Pegau has written three science fiction romance novels for Carina Press, two of which feature lesbian relationships. I really enjoyed RULEBREAKER and DEEP DECEPTION. Seems like Carina Press might be posed to add a bit of a variety to the lesbian romance market.
